Filmasia Festival to be filled with Hong Kong action movies
From the 5th to the 8th of December, Lucerna and Ponrepo cinemas in Prague will offer audiences a large selection of Asian action films full of martial arts during the new annual Filmasia festival. The festival is entering its fifteenth season this year. It has brought great Asian films to Prague since 2005.
‘Godfathers of Action’ and ‘Disciples’
There are two categories in the festival this year. The first, entitled ‘The Godfathers of Action’, is a celebration of Hong Kong martial arts and will show you the craziest stunts. Action movies are the most renowned part of Hong Kong cinematography throughout the world, and directors and actors regularly participate in other large-scale international productions.
‘Disciples’, the second part of the festival’s programme, focuses on martial arts films from others Asian countries. This section offers movies from Indonesia, Vietnam and Taiwan.
‘The Bodyguard’
The festival will open with the film ‘The Bodyguard’ on Thursday, the 5th of December at 7pm in Lucerna Cinema. Spectators will witness the struggle of a former elite mafia bodyguard in a seemingly idyllic Chinese village.
‘The Bodyguard’ is an ‘acting concert’ by the legendary kung fu actor Sammo Hung, who not only acted in, but also directed and choreographed the film.
One of Indonesia's most expensive films
On Friday, the 6th of December, the festival will move to the Ponrepo cinema, where other Asian blockbusters will be available for the following three days. The films ‘Once Upon a Time in China’, ‘SPL II: A Time for Consequences’ and ‘Project A’ from the ‘Godfathers in Action’ series will be shown.
The films ‘Furie’, ‘The Scoundrels’, and above all, the Indonesian wuxia comedy ‘212: Warrior’ will be shown in Ponrepo Cinema in the ‘Disciples’ category. The protagonist of '212: Warrior’ is easily recognisable thanks to the number 212 tattooed on his chest and his equally-famous one-handled axe.
The film ‘212: Warrior’, which is an adaptation of a popular Indonesian book series, is one of the most expensive Indonesian productions ever made, and combines local martial arts with historical spectacle and absurd humour.
In addition to feature films, this year's festival will also offer an accompanying programme, including discussions and documentary screenings.
