Description of building:

The building is an immovable cultural site, registered in the Central register of cultural sites under R.č.Ú.s. 1-1874 and is in the protected zone of the heritage site reserve of the capital city Prague, declared by ruling of the former department of culture NVP č.j. Kul/5-932/81 from May 19th, 1981 on determination of protected zone of heritage site reserve of the capital city Prague and its supplement from July 9th, 1981, which determine this protected zone and the conditions for activities within it.

The architectonically demanding neo-Renaissance structure called "Na Křížku" (On the Cross) is a distinct visually dominating feature in the middle of a steep hill, by Vlnitá road, which links together the current Zelený pruh (Green band) and the oldest part of the old Bráník. The building in question, formerly a land-worker farmhouse, transformed at the start of this century in several phases into a restaurant, marks a complex structural development, which gave the building its existing complicated and considerably irregular form. In the west wing of the ground floor and in parts of the south wing there have been up until now preserved parts of the mentioned former land-worker farmhouse. The other parts most likely originated at the start of this century. The building was declared as a cultural site, is located within the territory of the protected zone of the Prague heritage site reserve at an elevated dominant position. The facades of the building in question are covered in the upper parts of the facade by preserved graffiti decoration, the artist of which is Ladislav Novák. The artist of the graffiti with ornamental and figurative motifs was influenced in his conceptions by the models of Mikoláš Alš. The structure is interesting because of its bizzareness, its broken ground plan and complete irregularity, which was indisputably done on purpose. It is also marked by considerably free fantastic treatment of motifs and individual details.

In 2003 and 2004, designs for the following renovation work were approved:

1. Repair of rafters with replacement of roof covering and tinsmith elements.

2. Repair of pargeting of the facade and its stucco and graffiti decoration.

3. Reworking of existing filling material of windows and doors and replacement of old filling material by copies of former ones.

4. Repair of railing elements and locksmith elements.

5. Restoration of modelled elements on gables and parapets.

Restorer:

academic sculptor Libor Pikslák

Success from the viewpoint of heritage site care:

The total renovation of the roof and facade of the building was carried out under the direct supervision of MHMP OPP and NPÚ. The greatest success from the viewpoint of heritage site care is the renovation of the valuable building, carried out to a high level of craftsmanship, with obliging co-operation of the owner, supplier, restorer and heritage site care authorities.
