Christmas ice hockey youth tournament O Vánoční puk in Holešovice

The premier Czech ice hockey competition Hokejová Tipsport extraliga is in full swing, and so as not to be left out, there is also a championship for young ice hockey players, O vánoční puk Nadace HCS. This tournament takes place annually at the end of December. This year, children born in and after 2008 will play.

The Christmas season tournament is very successful. Usually, the matches are very balanced, which is important for children of this age. As we all know, participation in these events matters more than the result. What is more, it is a valuable experience for the youth and a great opportunity to compete with teams from other countries.

It would not be possible for this annual tournament to take place without the funding of Nadační fond HC Sparta, which covers the costs of the event. Vít Šubert, the founder of the charity foundation Srdce na Dlani, which looks after children in care, is also the founder of the HC Sparta fund. The goal of this charity is to help socially disadvantaged children to play ice hockey and to open the door of HC Sparta to young ice hockey enthusiasts whose parents cannot afford to spend money on expensive ice hockey gear and training for their children. Furthermore, the fund recognises the importance of the further development of the young ice hockey players, and it helps to create the best possible conditions for their improvement, not only at home, but also abroad. For example, the fund helps the youngsters to gain an international experience by giving them the opportunity to partake in international tournaments, such as O Vánoční puk.

Help in an unexpected life situation

However, it is equally important to help the young athletes with unexpected life misfortunes. The fund also helps young ice hockey players to return to their training and normal life after an injury or an accident. Unfortunately, such situations happen in life, and the support is very welcome.

Eight hockey teams will take part in the tournament

What teams will compete in this year’s tournament O Vánoční puk Nadace HCS? Apart from HC Sparta Praha, there are seven other teams:

HC Atek Kyjev

HC Sdushor Minsk

Pro Team Select

HC Oceláři Třinec

HC Fenix Kaliningrad

HC Motor České Budějovice

HK Nitra.

Every team is guaranteed a minimum of three games.

Nadace HCS’s other projects

Other projects of the charity fund include: support the development of special youth ice hockey projects, study-motivation programmes, the development of sports infrastructure and to improve sporting conditions for the youth.
