30.6.2020 — Fans of new circus will be pleased to hear that Letní Letná, the popular new circus festival, will take place this year after all, and only part of the programme will be postponed until next year. The 17th annual Letní Letná festival will take place from the 18th to the 25th of August in Letenské sady in Prague. Unfortunately, the programme will not be the same, but it is still well worth a visit!

2.5.2019 — Velká Chuchle Racecourse in Prague has prepared an attractive novelty for its visitors. After a few decades, show jumping is making its comeback here. The first event will take place on Friday, the 3rd of May, and admission is free!

24.3.2019 — In the 'Mytologická chodba' (Mythological Corridor) of the 'Valdštejnský palác' (Wallenstein Palace), which is the seat of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic, there is a unique exhibition of gifts that Senators have received from foreign delegations over the past twenty years. Gift exchanges are a traditional part of meetings of state officials with delegations from abroad. This diplomatic protocol was applied in Antiquity and its first written record is from the Congress of Vienna in 1815.

23.2.2019 — As part of the Jazz Meets World Festival, Enver İzmaylov, master guitar player, will perform on the 26th of February 2019 in the club 'U Staré paní'. İzmaylov is renowned for his unique playing technique and instrument tuning. He is of Tartar origin and was born in 1955 in Fergana, in the former Uzbek Soviet Socialist Republic, to a Crimean-Tatar family. His family was deported to Uzbekistan from Crimea, where the guitarist returned in 1989.

12.7.2019 — On the 13th and the 14th of July, Prague Botanical Garden invites you to a culinary weekend. Come to the Food Festival to taste unconventional delicacies, listen to good music and enjoy floral decorations!

31.1.2020 — Entrance to the National Gallery will be free at the beginning of February on the occasion of the 224th anniversary of the foundation of the Society of Patriotic Friends of Art ('Společnost vlasteneckých přátel umění'). Take this unique opportunity to visit their collections and exhibitions on the 1st and 2nd of February.

28.4.2020 — The 29th of April has been the International Dance Day since 1982. The traditional meeting of dancers and dance fans usually takes place on Střelecký Island, where the event has a wide fan base. However, due to the coronavirus pandemic, this year's annual competition will be broadcast online from several locations in Prague. Nevertheless, the event will still connect the Czech dance scene with the public.

14.2.2020 — On the 18th of February, the La Película festival will start in Prague's Světozor Cinema. For six days viewers will have the opportunity to delve into Spanish and Latin American films. This year, the festival will focus also on Cuban history.

17.6.2020 — On the 19th of June, the 'RESET: zpátky na scénu' ('RESET: Back on Stage') multimedia show will bring an unprecedented combination of stage elements and special effects to the darkened Křižík's Pavilion B at Prague Exhibition Grounds (Výstaviště Praha). After a long break, the Pyroterra art group will bring the pavilion to life with their spectacular show!

21.12.2019 — The City of Prague Museum invites you to visit the photography exhibition by the renowned Czech photographer and reporter Jovan Dezort on the occasion of his 85th birthday. You have the opportunity to see a cross-section of his life's work until the 26th of April 2020.

31.7.2019 — The ICF World Ranking Race will take place in Prague Troja on the 3rd and 4th of August. In addition to the many successful athletes who will be taking part, you can also look forward to a rich accompanying programme. The ICF World Ranking Race returns to Prague after a very successful first year, and Prague Troja will host the world-class slalom races once again.

13.5.2019 — On the 15th of May 2019, the annual celebrations of St. John of Nepomuk will take place in Prague.

25.11.2019 — Akcent International Theatre Festival, organised by Archa Theatre, is on until the 2nd of December. Theatre installations, interactive scenic events and productions of documentary theatre are all on the festival's programme. Archa Theatre has been organising the international documentary theatre festival Akcent since 2010. Their aim is to create a platform for art that crosses the boundaries between art, social issues and politics.

11.2.2019 — For almost 11 million CZK, Prague Castle Administration bought two paintings by the well-known Czech painter Kamil Lhoták (1912-1990). The paintings will be exhibited at the Picture Gallery at the 2nd Courtyard of Prague Castle until February 28th.

30.4.2020 — There has been ongoing work to improve the area surrounding the Martiňák Pond (rybník Martiňák) between Černý Most and Dolní Počernice over the past few years.

9.7.2020 — This summer, you can admire the painter Eva Erbsová's works in the lobby of the Škoda Palace. The painter exhibits regularly in the Škoda Palace, one of Prague City Hall's buildings, in recent years. This time, she selected paintings inspired by exhibits of the National Technical Museum in Prague in Letná.

17.1.2020 — Akropolis Palace in Prague hosts Katarina Máliková in concert on the 21st of January. The Slovakian star will launch her second and long-awaited album there.

16.9.2020 — An interesting exhibition focusing on Prague's covered passages started on Monday, the 14th of September. This exhibition of photographs allows you to learn more about the city of Prague in detail.

5.10.2019 — Barbara Coudenhove-Kalergi's autobiography 'Home is Everywhere' will be presented in Prague by the author, who will read from the book in the Václav Havel Library on the 7th of October.

31.1.2020 — The leaders of the Integrated Rescue System and other bodies met in Prague City Hall in order to discuss and exchange information on preparations for potential occurrences of coronavirus in Prague.

30.9.2019 — The Czech capital wants to thank blood donors by inviting them to the first of three Prague Symphony Orchestra (FOK) concerts at the end of September. City representatives and representatives of the Czech Red Cross Regional Organisation (CRC) will also receive the Jánský Gold Medal, which is traditionally given to donors who give blood 40 times. Subsequent concerts are scheduled for February and May next year.

31.8.2020 — The city of Prague and the partner organisation 'Praha sportovní' are holding the ninth Sports Clubs Open Month ('Měsíc náborů do sportovních Klubů') in September. The aim of this project is to offer children from Prague the opportunity to try out various sports and pick out their favourite.

4.10.2019 — The 6th annual Be2Can film festival will take place in Prague from the 2nd to the 8th of October. The festival will feature award winning films from the three most prestigious film festivals: the Berlin International Film Festival, Cannes Film Festival and the Venice Film Festival, along with many other excellent movies.

15.4.2019 — Wine lovers, listen! Wine tasting season is about to start! On the 27th of April, you can taste delicious wines from small wineries that have their own family traditions in the picturesque Ctěnice Chateau.

6.8.2020 — The 25th International Organ Festival will take place from the 6th of August to the 24th of September in the Basilica of St. James the Greater in Prague's Old Town. Festival goers will have the opportunity to enjoy solo organ recitals by leading Czech and international organists.

28.12.2019 — The Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague is hosting an exhibition of works by the iconic Finnish designer Tapio Wirkkala until the 23rd of January. The exhibition is held in the museum's historical building in the city centre. The exhibition's curators are Uta Laurén and Jan Mergl.

29.6.2019 — This year, Prague Botanical Garden in Troja is celebrating its 50th anniversary. As part of the year-long celebrations, a new collection of wine, Cuvée Natalis, and a book about the vineyard, 'Vinice sv. Kláry 365', are now available to visitors.

18.8.2020 — The vulnerable Texas tortoise is a species of tortoise in the Testudinidae family, and one of six species of tortoises in the Gopherus genus, commonly referred to as gopher tortoises. They are native to North America, in southern US and northern Mexico. Prague Zoo, which is the only zoo in Europe that successfully breeds this species, celebrated the birth of a new hatchling in the second half of July. Texas tortoises inhabit deep burrows, which they dig with their strong claws and flattened front legs. However, they prefer to use pre-dug mammal burrows. Prague Zoo has kept a group of these interesting tortoises in the Sonora exhibit in the Pavilion of Beasts and Reptiles since 2007. The first hatchlings were born in 2010.

6.10.2020 — The international literary festival in Prague has been introducing the world's most renowned writers and the best world literature for the past 30 years. The Prague Writer's Festival will take place between the 7th and the 11th of October in the Convent of St. Agnes and Rock Café this year.

27.2.2020 — At a press conference held following the meeting of the State Security Council, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Tomáš Petříček said that the infection of Czech citizens and fellow citizens abroad has not yet been confirmed. He asks Czech citizens to register in the Drozd system, at: https://drozd.mzv.cz , before travelling abroad, so they can be contacted if necessary.

31.8.2020 — Prague Zoo has been working to protect endangered Egyptian vultures in Bulgaria for a long time. Experts placed two young birds into two wild vultures' nests in the Eastern Rhodopes a few days ago as part of this programme.

13.1.2019 — The City of Prague Museum opens an exhibition of dance cards and fans which evoke the atmosphere of the great 19th-century balls.

17.5.2019 — On the 18th of May 2019, the next annual Prague Proms International Festival, a prominent summer gala by the Czech National Symphony Orchestra, will start. Visitors will enjoy great concerts of classical, film and jazz music. The annual participation of top foreign artists is evidence that this is a prestigious project. Celebrities such as opera singer Edita Gruber, conductor Marcello Rota, Swedish trumpeter Lasse Lingren, saxophonist Brandford Marsalise and his Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra - one of the best active big bands in the world, phenomenal soprano Anna Netrebko, and the big band Buddy Roche all accepted the invitation, along with many other big-name artists.

17.5.2020 — If you enjoy looking at the city from a great height, you will be pleased to know that the City of Prague Museum is reopening the most popular Prague towers. The Czech capital city is also known as the City of a Hundred Spires ('Stověžatá Praha'). Only a few people know exactly how many towers there are in Prague; however, it is certainly over one hundred. In Prague, towers of all kinds are everywhere, even in the least expected places.

30.8.2019 — The Environmental Protection Department of Prague City Hall was in charge of repairing a neglected part of Květnice Garden, costing 2.8 million CZK. The garden is part of Petřín Park (Petřínské sady) and is located above Nebozízek in the proximity of the Rose Orchard (Růžový sad).

17.12.2018 — The season of Advent, the four weeks leading into Christmas, is the time of Christmas markets where people are purchasing gifts for their loved ones and absorbing the Christmas atmosphere. Where will you find them in Prague? Traditionally, the largest two markets are in Staroměstské náměstí (Old Town Square) and Václavské náměstí (Wenceslas Square). This year's theme of the markets is fairy tales. The fairy tale motifs can be seen in the decorations. The daily performances on the stage in the Old Town Square is in line with the fairy tales theme. They will continue right through until the 6th of January 2019.

16.2.2020 — Come to appreciate and support the best pole dance contestants who have made their way through the individual rounds of Battle League 2019 to the elite final of the competition. Pole Battle Championship will take place on the 22nd of February in the sports hall TJ Sokol Královské Vinohrady.

23.6.2020 — Prague Music Festival ('Praha Žije Hudbou') will take place between the 25th and 27th of June. 150 musicians will take part in the fifth year of the street art festival, playing in the streets, squares and parks of Prague. Do you appreciate live music in the streets? Are you familiar with the feeling of listening to a great band in the city centre with your friends and family, enjoying an unforgettable evening? This is what Prague Music Festival is all about.

8.6.2012 — Three quarters of European citizens live and work in big cities. For that reason, these cities joined together in 1986 and founded the non-profit organization EUROCITIES to share knowledge and apply this knowledge in practice.

19.2.2020 — The National Pedagogical Museum hosts an interesting exhibition that tells the life story of Jan Amos Comenius (Komenský in Czech) in a unique way. The 'KOMenský v KOMiksu' ('Comenius in the Comics') exposition will be open in the museum building on Valdštejnská Street until the 31st of December 2020.
