Prague sings: Hej mistře! (Hey Master!)

23.12.2018 — It is traditionally celebrated at midnight on Christmas Eve, in various locations in the Capital. 'Czech Christmas Mass', also known as Hej mistře! ('Hey Master!'), popularly called Rybovka, and in Latin Missa solemnis Festis Nativitatis D. J. Ch. acomodata in linguam bohemicam musicam, abriviated to Missa pastoralis bohemika, is a Czech religious composition written by Jakub Jan Ryba. It is the first written liturgical composition in Czech. Rybovka is a pastoral play set in Czechia that narrates the story of the Annunciation of Christ's birth and the arrival of shepherds to the manger in the stable. It was composed in 1796 and hand-written copies quickly spread throughout the Kingdom of Bohemia. The original score has not been preserved, and the versions that are played today are compiled based on critical analyses of the hand-written copies.

11.6.2019 — From the 12th to the 14th of June, the first English language theatre festival FEST-END (Festival of English-Speaking Drama) will take place in Švanda Theatre in Prague.

International dance project in Studio ALTA will bring comic relief

29.6.2020 — On the 2nd and 3rd of July, Studio ALTA will present 'How Things Go', the first joint project by the newly formed duo Felix Baumann (DE) and Sean Henderson (US/ CH). Baumann and Henderson brilliantly combine dance, physical and visual theatre. In 'How Things Go', the two performers' encounters with various objects cause a chain reaction, which inevitably leads to chaos. However, they do not give up or lose their sense of humour, and the audience laughs with them. Witnessing such creative yet futile efforts makes you think of comedians like Buster Keaton, Charlie Chaplin and the Czech animated slapstick pair Pat & Mat.

Cars on Smetanovo Embankment to be replaced by beer gardens and terraces

22.5.2020 — Following in the footsteps of great cities such as Barcelona, Paris, Brussels, New York and Berlin, the city of Prague is planning to create more public space for pedestrians. The first new pedestrian zone will be created in part of the Smetanovo Embankment ('Smetanovo nábřeží'). Car traffic towards Křížovnické Square near Charles Bridge will go through Divadelní and Karoliny Světlé streets instead.

The fifth annual Flamenco Day will be held in Prague

Christmas exhibition on medieval masterpieces

16.12.2019 — The National Gallery has been running an exhibition on mediaeval and early Renaissance art in the Convent of St. Agnes of Bohemia in the Old Town of Prague since November. On the 18th of December, the National Gallery is organising Christmas guided tours to selected Christmas-themed panel paintings and 14thand 15th century sculptures, with themes such as Christ's childhood, the Adoration of the Magi, and Madonna with Child, among others.

Prague Planetarium offers new adventure for explorers of all ages

11.7.2020 — When making your plans for the summer, be sure to include Prague Planetarium on your schedule. You will be able to enjoy new shows and see the stars, as well as virtually visit the surface of Venus, among other places. Prague Planetarium is one of the largest planetariums in the world, and the only one of its kind in the Czech Republic. The main hall, Cosmorama, is 23.5 metres wide and its dome reaches a height of 15 metres, and it seats 210 spectators.

Filmasia Festival to be filled with Hong Kong action movies

9.10.2020 — Fotograf Festival, which takes place in Prague until the 18th of October, is a festival of photography, which explores the relationship between contemporary art and photography.
