The world's biggest Romani festival is here

24.5.2019 — From the 26th of May to the 1st of June, rhythmic Roma music will sound throughout Prague as the 21st annual Romani festival, Khamoro, takes place. Khamoro ('sun' in the Roma language) is the biggest and the most famous professional Roma festival in the world. It has been held in Prague since 1999.

Commemorate the First Defenestration of Prague

26.7.2019 — New Town Hall (Novoměstská radnice) and the Municipal District Prague 2 have prepared an interesting programme for the anniversary of the First Defenestration of Prague, from the 27th to the 31st of July. Prague Public Transport Museum is open in the winter

17.2.2019 — Since the Prague Public Transport Museum is very popular, The Prague Public Transit Co. Inc. has decided to open it to the public even in the winter months. The museum will be open every weekend until the 31st of March 2019 from 9am to 5pm. New drive-in cinema at the Great Strahov Stadium

Special Prague Symphony Orchestra concert in the Municipal House

15.6.2020 — Prague Symphony Orchestra, also known as FOK, which stands for Film Opera Koncert, will hold a special concert in the Municipal House's Smetana Hall. The concert will be the orchestra's first after the coronavirus break and will take place at 7:30 pm on Tuesday, the 23rd of June. The orchestra will be directed by Pietari Inkinen. Sibelius' tone poem 'Finlandia' Op. 26 and Dvořák's Symphony No. 9 in E minor Op. 95 'From the New World' will be on the evening's programme. This is will Inkinen's final concert as chief conductor of FOK, with his typical combination of Finnish and Czech music.

24th Strings of Autumn Festival offers alternative concerts

7.9.2020 — Israeli bassist Avishai Cohen will launch the Strings of Autumn festival on the Lucerna Rooftop on the 11th of September, with up to 250 spectators. The capacity is limited to 250 spectators. Music lovers will enjoy Cohen's concert in an unusually intimate atmosphere, very different to the great halls where he usually plays. The charming environment on the Lucerna Palace Rooftop between the Prague towers offers a unique view of Prague's landmarks and makes the concert even more special.

6.1.2019 — The extensive graphic collection Passion and Guilt by the famous Spanish artist Pablo Picasso are on exhibit in Museum Kampa until the 15th of January 2019. The works, which were created in the 1930s, are on loan from the renowned Museo Reina Sofía (Queen Sofía Museum) in Madrid, Spain. They can be seen in the Czech Republic for the first time ever. The cycle is a collection of one hundred works that the artist compared to a diary, reflecting on his extraordinary life story.

Unique numbering system on Prague’s lampposts assists with rescues

21.1.2019 — There are more than 130,000 lampposts in Prague and each pole is marked with a unique number code. It accurately identifies a particular pole and provides information about its location. "We have a database of these numbers that is accessible to the Integrated Rescue system. Emergency line operators are able to quickly locate the caller when they give them the number of the nearest public lamppost. In practice, it helps a lot," Jan Chabr says. Chabr is Prague's City Hall Councillor and is in charge of Prague's municipal assets.

Rada hlavního města Prahy schválila návrh na poskytnutí dotací pro poskytovatele sociálních služeb

18.3.2024 — Pražští radní na svém dnešním zasedání souhlasili s návrhem na poskytnutí dotací z rozpočtu hlavního města pro rok 2024 určeným poskytovatelům sociálních služeb, kteří jsou součástí Krajské sítě poskytovatelů sociálních služeb. Návrh ve výši více jak dvě miliardy korun zajistí kvalitní a dostupné sociální služby pro Pražany. Tento návrh bude ještě předložen Zastupitelstvu hl. m. Prahy.

Dance festival KoresponDance 2019 starts in Prague

23.6.2019 — Most of the international contemporary dance festival KoresponDance will take place at the Castle in Žďár nad Sázavou, but the opening event will be in Prague. On the 25th of June, dancers will entertain the audience with three performances at the historical building of Invalidovna in Prague. One of the highlights of the evening will be a solo performance by James Batchelor, one of Australia's most amazing dance artists.

Ferry Vyšehrad

17.7.2020 — 'Náplavky', meaning riverbanks, have become popular venues for various events and markets in Prague. Now, travelling between Smíchovská náplavka by Hořejší Embankment and Náplavka by Rašínovo Embankment will be quicker and easier thanks to a new regular ferry connecting them.

Czech Police Museum collecting facemasks for exhibition

31.5.2020 — Wearing a facemask, respirator or bandana has become a new standard in the Czech Republic due to the coronavirus pandemic. It is mandatory to cover your nose and mouth from the 19th of March, with some exceptions. The Czech Police Museum is creating an original collection of masks to exhibit. Due to a lack of masks and because they are mandatory, some people started to make them at home.

The eighth annual festival of Iranian films in Prague with English subtitles

16.1.2019 — From the 15th to the 20th of January, Prague cinemas present a festival, which introduces some of the best current Iranian films. The festival, simply called 'Írán:ci' (Iranians), features films projected with English subtitles. It opens on the 15th of January at 8pm in the Lucerna cinema, with a dark comedy 'Pig', one of the most successful Iranian movies of the year. The director Mani Haghighi, whose movies 'About Elly' and 'Dragon Arrives!' were successful in previous years of the festival, will introduce the film.

Prague Zoo to build new Arctic pavilion

22.10.2020 — Prague Zoo has been breeding polar bears since 1932, and they have had several significant breeding successes since then. However, taking care of them is very difficult and the 80-year-old pavilion is no longer suitable, so Prague Zoo is going to build a new Arctic pavilion.

31.3.2020 — Prague Zoo is closed to the public due to the pandemic, but life inside goes on through the zoo's new YouTube channel. According to director Miroslav Bobek, the zoo is functioning without any major issues. Roughly a third of employees are still working, taking care of the animals and basic operations, including curators, breeders, veterinarians, feeders and the maintenance crew. Construction work continues on sites such as the new gorilla pavilion.

Transport restrictions in Českobrodská Street

26.2.2019 — The current road works on a 300-metre-long stretch on Českobrodská Street will continue until the end of June and the necessary traffic restrictions are in place. The area under reconstruction runs through Běchovice. The traffic restrictions affect the stretch on Českobrodská Street from Do Říčan Street to Dolnopočernická Street. The work will be done in two stages - the first on the northern half of the road, and the second on the southern half. Access will only be granted to the emergency services, Prague City buses, residents, and suppliers. Other vehicles must have permission to access the area.

Celebrate Prague Zoo’s anniversary

26.9.2020 — The 28th of September is the Day of Czech Statehood. In Prague Zoo, this day is traditionally dedicated to the zoo's anniversary. The reopening of the Hippopotamus Pavilion and the introduction of the male hippoTchéco will be the highlights of this year's celebration. However, in order to maintain social distancing and prevent large numbers of visitors indoors, this part of the event will be broadcasted on ČT24 in the morning and visitors will be able to visit the Hippo Pavilion over the course of the afternoon.

6.7.2020 — The VILA Štvanice Theatre has opened its outdoor summer venue, with the biggest stage located under the arch of the Hlávkův Bridge overlooking the park.
