For many tourists a visit to a foreign city remains an unforgettable experience full of happy memories. Unfortunately, things can happen anywhere in the world to spoil your visit – the visitor may even become the victim of a crime, may need to seek medical attention or be caught in a fire.

Emergency numbers

155 – the emergency number for ambulance services in the event of danger to life or health and wherever medical attention is required. The operator will give advice on first aid until an ambulance arrives.

158 – the emergency number for Police (Czech Republic) which should be used to report situations requiring immediate response in the case of danger to life, health or property, to report public disorder or give information in connection with a crime, a missing or wanted person, a car theft, accident, explosion, natural calamity, road accident or a vehicle that has been towed away.

156 – the emergency number for Police (City of Prague) which serves for the same cases as the National Police number, but should be used in problematic situations relating to life in the Capital City, such as theft, minor offences, towed or wheel-clamped vehicles.

150 – the emergency number for fire services on which the caller can report a fire in a building, a car, a forest or other structure, or to request assistance to free a person trapped in a crashed car, collapsed building or under a fallen tree but seems to be uninjured.

112 – the universal emergency number which will connect you to police, fire and ambulance services. This number can even be called from a mobile phone without credit or a SIM card. The operator, who can give advice in foreign languages, will be able to determine your present location.

The quickest way of calling help is to use the 24 hour free-phone emergency numbers. When using these emergency numbers proceed according to the following rules.
- say what has happened and if anyone is injured
- say what town and street the incident happened in
- give your name and the phone number you are calling from
- answer all the operators questions
- do what the operator tells you and wait for assistance
